5. James Roman lists a number of similarities between  Westerns and cop shows. List two of them. (pg 41) Each features nonconformist characters who act as  arbitrators of justice, interpreting the law and applying its  code.  Both have a “formula”, good guy, bad guy, and damsel in  distress.  Dramatic context and narrative structure of the television  Western and police drama are similar in design and function.  Heroes—courageous individuals.  Both audiences admire the rugged determinism of  individuals.  Both integrate the heroic virtues of bravery, stringy, and  resourcefulness.  Examples: NYPD Blue, gritty  realism and physical intimacy    Surfside six: formula: three male private eyes, pretty girl,  edgy  dialogue, and a villain   Section 1 1) Pushing daisies executive producer dan jinks labels the medium of television as a  writers medium.  Why does jinks believe that writers are   so crucial to the show? *creative authority (produce, cast, write), immediate -the writer has constant creative authority -  the writer can see his project in prouction almost immediately

-  write, cast and produce Unlike film, which is a director;s medium, meaning most screenwriters turn in their schreenplay and then a  couple years later they are invited to the film, tv is a writers medium and are much more crucial to the final  product 2)  Narration plays a significant role in pushing daisies.  What reason did executive  producer dan jinks give for why narration is so crucial to the first episode?-  ~unique quirky, exactitude of death, less complicated,  Why is narration so important to the first episode? * Essential to the first episode because the plot structure was so complicated and there would be  no other way to describe this complicated plot structure *don’t want to confuse the audience on the first episode * childhood was more about image and less script, so put in a narrator to help  *quirky element that makes the show more original and fairy tale like *The Narrator is extremely precise when describing the age of characters, giving details right  down to the final minute, which emphasizes the finality and exactitude of death. * ask! 3)  How did pushing daisies pitch the idea of the show to abc? Why did he feel that  the show was a good idea for the abc network?

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
