2 Special Issues in Criminal Justice There are challenges and issues in every business field that have to be dealt with. The criminal justice field is no different. Some current issues in this area are the juvenile justice system, the connection between drugs and crime, terrorism, and the relationship between crime and technological advancement. Juvenile Justice System Issues facing the juvenile justice system today are the increasing number of juveniles committing serious crimes, being tried and sentenced as adults and incarcerated in prison with adults. Over the years, the US Congress has passed several laws to provide rehabilitation for juveniles. The U.S. Supreme Court has also set precedents and interpreted the US Constitution that has been favorable to juveniles (Schmalleger, 2017, Chapter 11, Juvenile Justice) . In 1996, the Office of the Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention recommended new rules for jailing juveniles. Adjudicated delinquents can be detained for up to 12 hours in an adult facility prior to a court appearance and state jails can house these delinquents in separate wings. In 2002, this was expanded and most states accept federal funds to make this possible. Not all states house juvenile offenders separately. Juvenile offenders convicted of more serious crimes, like murder, are housed with the adult population in some states. This exposes youth to physical and sexual assault

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
