Maija Causwell 35947308 Religious Studies 101 April 6 th , 2018 Compare and contrast their origins by analyzing historical data and textual evidence discussed in class and the course readings. The “Near East” by definition includes the countries Mesopotamia (modern Iraq and Syria), Anatolia (modern Turkey), the Levant (modern Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Palestine, and Jordan), as well as Persia (modern Iran), and Ancient Egypt. Christianity, Judaism and Islam are all religions that branched off of Abraham and as a result have many similarities including all originating in the near east. Observing significant events that had an impact on the historic origins of these religions, and then taking the locations of these events mentioned in scripture in the Quran, Torah and New Testament and locating them within the defined boundaries of the near east will prove the that these Religion originated in the near east. In Judaism the story of creation in the Hebrew bible, which marks the beginning of life for the Jews, takes place in what is referred to as the Garden of Eden. The garden of Eden is given a geographical location in Genesis 2:10-11,13-14, naming four rivers that flow out of the Eden, “ 10 A river flows out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it divides and becomes four branches. 11 The name of the first is Pishon; it is the one that flows around the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold; ….
