Discuss the ideologies associated with utilitarianism and deontological ethics concerning human behavior and the ethical or unethical decisions and/or actions of those working in law enforcement. Police integrity and ethics are essential to effective policing and helps foster good relations within communities. Positive conduct by law enforcement officials expands community interactions, enriches communication, and encourages shared responsibility for tackling crime and disorder. Ethics are the foundation of the criminal justice system. Ethics is described as a set of principles of right conduct, a theory or a system of moral values, the rules or standards governing the conduct of a person or members of a profession (What is Ethics and How Does it Affect Officers?, 2016). It's what helped us develop the moral reasoning we use today, how we define criminal activity, and what we as a society deem as acceptable punishment.
