By utilizingthis device, Christie essentially has the ability to construct a multitude of viewpoints fromvarious characters to analyze the crime that has been executed in the novel. This helps constructa false image of the book as a whole, which will make the reader struggle to figure out thedifferences between whatappearsto be the truth rather than therealitytruth. The theme ofappearance vs reality is very prevalent in the novel and is heavily emphasized by the contrastbetween two sets of characters. First being the characters of King's Abbott who are enamoredwith gossip and analyzing with feelings and not reason, and second being Hercules Poirot who isthe mastermind of deducing and is manifested within all ideas of logic, observation and reason.
