Let me begin today's reflection by reminding you that the Israelites have been at Mount Sinai since Exodus chapter 19. They have been at Sinai, all the way through the 40th chapter of Exodus, all the way through Leviticus, all through the first 9 chapters of Numbers, and here they are. And now finally they’re getting ready to move out. And as they begin to move out, Moses highlights three things that are significant in Israel's wilderness journey. First, Moses draws attention to the fact that Israel is careful to obey precisely God's directions as they travel through the wilderness. In verses 1-10, Moses goes into great detail about how they were to camp, how they were to march, what order they were to go in and so on. Then in verses 11 to 28, he gives a very straightforward account of the fact that the Israelites did exactly what God had told them to do. And, in doing so he's drawing attention to the fact that they’re following God's directions. That's the big message. The Israelites obeyed God's instructions as they began their journey into the wilderness. They were obedient to all
