Connor Blair Preparation Outline: The Meat Industry’s Affects on Earth General Purpose: To inform Specific Purpose: To inform my audience the negative affects the meat industry and factory farms has on the planet. Central Purpose: The meat industry is one of the largest contributors to our planet’s most pressing problems including global warming, the overuse of natural recourses such as water, oil, and land, and pollution. Intro: I. Today our planet is in its worst environmental state ever. II. Rising temperatures, natural disasters, massive extinction, and pollution are currently devastating the earth. III.There are several major contributors, but the meat industry and factory farms are the second leading reason for the planet’s demise, only behind the US military. IV. Today, I will inform you of the effects the meat industry and factory farms have on global warming, dwindling natural recourses, and pollution. Body: I. The meat industry fuels global warming. In fact, Global Warming can be directly related to the meat we eat. A. According to the United Nations Environment Program’s Unit on Climate Change, “There is a strong link between human diet and methane emissions from livestock.” a. Global is, essentially, caused from greenhouse gases. The majority of greenhouse gases emitted are Carbon Dioxide and Methane. Together, they account for more than 90 percent of U.S. greenhouse emissions. b. Factory farms are the culprit for the release of these greenhouse gases – more so than planes trains, and automobiles combined, as well as big
