Hunter 1 Christopher Hunter Mr. Sieker Engl. 1414-2130 12 May 2017 The Eternal Structure: A Definition of the Hero’s Journey and the Meanings it Creates in The Kite Runner Literature in both the modern and ancient world have composed countless stories that appear dissimilar but are inherently identical in one fundamental area —structure. This timeless need for structure in literature has brought about the existence of its various forms. The numerous forms of structure include the two most important and influential to literature—the hero’s journey and tragedy. These two archetypal structures are essentially two different perspectives on the human experience. While one involves a quest for discovery, the other involves a self imposed or external downfall. For generations humans have been fascinated by these two particular structures and the meanings they create outside of their established writings.
