Philosophy Paper 3 The white male inhabitants of the United States have a distinct advantage over those who lack these innate traits. Because of systematic discrimination minorities including white women are disadvantaged in today’s society. Many argue, “We’ve come so far, racism is a thing of the past!” But, today’s racism and sexism is a different, subconscious, lingering and ever-prevalent ideological evil. Although not obvious, racism is ominous. Explicit racism is gone; it now must be contextualized to be observed. According to several studies racist practices occur in things such as hiring, housing, healthcare, achieving tenure, and governmental help. iii For example, I drove through the DePauw campus on a Wednesday night, went the wrong on a one way road, and was pulled over by a police officer. Although I had a warning on my record, did not have my driver’s license or registration, and was not driving my own car I did not get a ticket of any kind and was not even breathalyzed. This seemed to be an innocent, nice gesture by the police officer until I spoke with my friends about it. A Black friend of mine said he received a $121 ticket for doing the exact same thing and he
