Connor Blair Professor McKelvey College Writing 130 22 April 2007 The Mississippi Burning Trial and Freedom Summer: Annotated Bibliography Rachal, John R. ""the Long, Hot Summer": the Mississippi Response to Freedom Summer, 1964." The Journal of Negro History 84 (1999): 315-339. JSTOR . 20 Apr. 2007. Focusing on the Freedom Summer of 1964 Rachal describes in depth the varying attitudes, emotions, responses, and feelings towards the many aspects of the Freedom Summer. From the black man and civil rights worker to the minister, klansmen, or townsperson Rachal encompasses every person’s point of view. He also describes why each person felt the way they did. Rachal’s article provides an excellent source for my paper. Non-biased, informed, and in depth the article gives excellent information regarding the attitudes towards the Freedom Summer in Mississippi. Rachal is a credited author who has published numerous articles relating to the civil rights movement. In my paper I am going to focus on the atmosphere during, and the reception of, the Freedom Summer in Mississippi. This article provides exactly the information I need. The article may go a little too in depth, but it is right on topic for what I was looking for.
