Running Head: REFLECTION1Reflection
GROUP COUNSELING REFLECTION2Group Counseling ReflectionThe course has significantly helped me gain knowledge and skills to develop my career as a counselor. Throughout the course, I have learned that group counseling is among the most effective strategies in counseling. Group counseling gives one a sense of belongs and care. It helps people to feel that he or she is not the only one dealing with thegiven problem, therefore helping them to be positive. Additionally, I have realized that group counseling does not necessarily involve a counselor offering advice. In various cases the group members share their strengths and experiences as well as ways they applied to the issues; therefore the members can learn from another. I have also noted thatgroups are categorized depending on the experiences of the patients. The groups will be effective if patients suffering from the same psychological problem are grouped together. Categorizing people help in inducing a self of belongingness among the group members (Trotzer, 2013). Furthermore, I have realized that group therapy is effective in some of the disorders while it might not adequately address others. Some of the problems that group therapy can address include alcoholism, eating disorders, depression among others.
