Running Head: ROBOTS IN HEALTHCARE Introduction Technology has been advancing as long as we can remember. Part of that technology is the use of robots in the healthcare field. Studies have shown that using robots can be beneficial for patient care despite of some disadvantages. Allowing robots to be included in the healthcare field positively affects patient care . Utilizing robots in hospitals or any other healthcare related setting can be beneficial to healthcare workers by performing roles such as disinfecting patient rooms, emergency departments and operating rooms; decontaminating and sterilizing surgical instruments; preparing and dispensing medications; collecting, handling and transporting laboratory samples and medical supplies: performing certain procedures or surgeries. Some have expressed concerns about robots taking over jobs that are normally performed by humans, but in fact they have been designed to work collaboratively with humans for maximum performance. Many of these robots are controlled by humans and are designed to facilitate tasks performed by healthcare workers. As a result, patient care is improved since the tasks are performed effectively in half of the time. Position Healthcare is a growing industry and technology keeps advancing. Scientists have collaborated to create ways to improve patient care throughout the years. They have studied the benefits and downfalls of utilizing robots in the healthcare industry. Robots are any mechatronics device that is designed to execute tasks that may be repetitive, unsafe, impossible or difficult for humans.
