Griffith J. Griffith Born in Wales in 1850 Migrated to the US when he was a teenager. Made his fortune mining silver in Mexico. On December 16, 1896, he donated 3,015 acres of Rancho Los Felis to the City of Los Angeles in order to create a public park in his name.” In 1904, he donated $100,000 to build an Observatory Performing Art Center. Died July 6, 1919
