BUS 303 Notes (Study for Midterm) Week 1: Us or Me (Online) Starts off the story with the speaker and his wife Clarissa having a picnic. They hear danger and without much thought the speaker gets and runs toward it to help the person yelling. As he’s running towards it he notices 4 other men running towards the situation as well, with neither man really knowing what’s going on. They notice they are running toward a helium filled air balloon. They later realized that in the basket of the air balloon was a little boy and beside the basket a man in need of help as his foot was tangled in the rope. The speaker was having a reunion picnic with Clarissa who he hadn’t seen in 6 weeks which was the longest they spent apart from one another in 7 years. Clarissa was gone to do research of John Keats dying in Rome in the house at the foot of the Spanish Steps where he lodged with his friend Joseph Severn. She was researching about unpublished letters of Keats As they were sitting and enjoying each-others company, the wind began to pick up and then heard a cry for help. They stood up and saw a large balloon, size of a house, that came down to the field. They saw the driver of the balloon being dragged across the field while being entangled in the rope. For an instant the man managed to get back on his feet and was clutching the basket possibly trying to help the boy get out, but then there was another gust of wind and the pilot was back on the ground, being dragged across as he tried to dig his feet into the ground. He yelled at the boy to jump out of the basket, but the boy was being tossed back and forth and he would fall back in the basket. The wind stopped for a bit so the pilot untangled himself so everyman rushing toward to help started to walk except for John Logan because he knew the wind would pick up again, which is exactly what happened. As the wind picked up, the pilot now had the rope in his as the air balloon flew up 2 feet. Logan got their just in time to pull the rope to stop the basket from flying away but now instead both men were being dragged across the field. The other men started to run again towards the basket. When the speaker came to the basket the basket was not at head height and the boy inside was screaming.

As all the men grabbed a rope, the pilot was yelling frantically and shouting instructions at the men which no one was listening to. The men had various ideas of what to do but there was no team effort of anything. Sure they had a common goal of bring the basket down and helping the kid but their approaches were vastly different and it was apparent as no one was listening to other and they were doing what they thought was best. No ONE person was in charge, everyone was shouting back in forth not allowing for effective or efficient communication.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
