We are discussing the impact of groups and teams on organizational behavior. To lay a proper foundation
we will define what groups and teams are and are not

Teams—groups of individuals working toward specific goals or outcomes. The common elements in the
definition of a team are:

Two or more people

with work roles that require them to be interdependent

who operate within a larger social system (the organization)

performing tasks relevant to the organization’s mission

with consequences that affect others inside and outside the organization

who have membership that is identifiable to those who are on the team and to those who are not on the
team.
