what is health behavior? -anything a person does that affects the person's health status or risk of disease, can make health better or worse examples: nutrition, sleep, exercise, social interactions book definition: those affective and emotional states, overt behavioral patterns, and cognitive elements that relate to health maintenance, to health restoration, and to health improvement. exam ?: explain ABCs of health behavior talk about how it has to do with emotion, cognition, and behavior 3 categories of health behavior: 1) preventive health behavior 2) behavior illness behavior 3) sick role behavior 1) preventive health behavior : activities performed by healthy people to stay healthy, important because they keep disease from spreading before it happens (screening, vaccines, vitamins, etc.) 2) illness behavior : activities performed by ill people to define the illness and discover a remedy (going to doctor, seeking out answers on the web, etc.), important to keep disease from spreading once it has occurred
