Name: Chih Lin College ID: 0636604 Thomas Edison State College American History 113 Section no.: N/A Semester and year: March 2017 Assignment #01 Assignment 1 Discuss the European motives for expansion and colonization in the New World. Then describe the different colonial transplantations that occurred in Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts Bay. What were the major sources of friction between the Indians and the English in Virginia and Massachusetts Bay? The motives of early European expansion and colonization of the New World were to search a better and safer trade route to Asia. Because of the high value in the exotic spices and other things, such as fabric and dyes, monarchs were eager to find solutions to get those goods back from Asia. However, the Muslim controlled the Eastern trade route, and it was dangerous for traders to travel through. In 1492, Christopher Columbus tried to reach Asia by going through oceans and discovered the Americas. Later, the exploration became a potential way for Gold hunting, and it eventually evolved into colonization. In the 16 th century, England started thinking colonizing the New World because the country suffered constant fallout from Thirty Years' War and European religious war, which brought in poverty for its people and religious reformation.
