Camila Ambrosio Silva March 27 , 2018 Christian understandings of salvation Dr Novak History of Interpretation The bible can be understood in different ways by different people . Each person has their own beliefs and that makes the diversity when it comes to interpretation of these texts . The passage I chose to interpret in this paper is John 3:5 . This passage says “Jesus answered , “Very truly I tell you , no one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit . ”” My interpretation of this passage is that you need to be baptized to enter Heaven , to be saved . During my research , I found that Augustine Of Hippo had some pretty interesting interpretations about this passage . The Council of Trent and Orange also had interesting things to say about this passage . Augustine of Hippo believed that for you to be saved , you needed God’s grace , you have no real choice regarding salvation , so not everyone ends up being saved , some end up being condemned .
