SC121 Unit 4 Assignment PART 1 1. Why are cells are important to the body Without cells there won’t be life. Cells work together in the tissue. Each tissue is influenced by factors and the connection between the cells that make up the tissue. 2. Which organelle do you think would kill you the fastest if you lost it? Explain your answer. Mitochondria It is part of the eukaryotic cells. It performs cellular respirations. It takes in nutrients and breaks it down into energy. It stores calcium ions and maintains the right concentration of these electrically charged particles involved in muscle contraction and blood clotting. It makes the iron compound that allows the red blood cells to ferry oxygen to the body tissue. It takes sugar and converts it into energy. It’s the energizer bunny but instead of batteries it’s cells that make our body go.
