What would you consider the three most important facts about the Opium Wars? List them in order of importance. Why they are important? One of the most important facts about China and the opium wars was that it weakened China a great deal. People didn’t know what to. They were trying to do the right thing and deal with the drug problem they were facing. However, all of this brought them much sorrow and despair which made more rebellion break out. Another thing was that it disturbed their Mandate of Heaven. This is something so special to the Chinese. The dispute that came with the trading with the British would come to weaken something that was so important to them, their connection between their leaders and Heaven. Lastly, China had suffered many deaths. This had the country completely upside down and weakened to the max.Why do you think the Taiping Rebellion and Boxer Uprising were popular? What fueled these rebellions?I think that a big reason why the Taiping Rebellion and Boxer Uprising were so popular was because of the connection with religion. A lot of the ideas of Confucianism were part of these revolutions. In the Taiping Rebellion, Hong convinced a lot of people that God and Jesus had appeared to him. This new religion gathered all sorts of people who were looking for hope. The membership kept growing and with their new found faith, they felt they needed to stand up against corruption. That got them the attention of the distracted and weak government. The Boxer’s uprising caused panic for all those who had been newly converted.
