Romero 1Alma Romero Professor Pagan ENC1101Monday, November 28, 2016Is Technology a Negative Influence in American Culture?Imagine living in a place where the only jobs one could work on is farming, taking care of animals, milking cows, or planting new seeds to have a nice production of fruits or vegetables. Also, imagine that when the weather is acting up the production will slow down and eventually there will be no much to do. Luckily, technology has improved over the years and the farmer jobs are now done by machines that are put together, and supervised by humans. Technology has been a big help to the American culture, it has created jobs that no one imagined, and it helps the country grow as a powerful place to live in. Some may argue that technology is not a benefit to the American culture today, stating that it is making today’s society more dependent on technology. Also, that the American people is losing the social skills because of social media. Butwhat they don’t see is all the benefits that comes with technology, because of an improved quality of life, faster research, and the exposure to new information and learning, technology has not been a negative influence on today’s society. To begin, the quality of jobs has improved within time, and as time passes by there are more inventions in technology that has helped society to a better quality of life. Farmers now have it easier because of the machines invented to help grow the production. Kevin Kelly a member of Wired and the editor of the cool toolswebsite explains in his essay “Better than human: Why Robots Will—and Must—Take Our Jobs”, how in a close future the jobs of the American society will become something never imagined.
