In the 1930s, during the Great Depression, Americans turned inward to focus on economic problems rather than focusing on the world’s issues. During the early Roosevelt Administration, there was little interest in things like war debts or stabilizing international currency, but there was a focus on establishing international trade. During Roosevelt’s Inauguration Speech, he talked about how the exchange of goods has fallen. Evidence of this can be shown in the Reciprocal Trade Agreement Act of 1934, which reduced taxes on countries trading with the United States in exchange for reduced export taxes on the United Sates.
