Re : IDIS 303 Lab Report 6 Purpose: The purpose of this lab is to gain a better understanding of how gears operate. Two exercises will be conducted to further understand how this concept works in action. Procedures: In lab 6, there were two parts. In the first part, we had to fill out three tables. In the first table, we had to use the Boston Gear catalog to solve for several categories such as: gear type, diametrical pitch, pitch diameter, number of teeth, and pressure angle for six gears. Then we had to use the Browning catalog to find the part number for each gear. In the second table, we had to solve for the speed ratios for three driver and driven gear combinations. In the third table, we had to find the values for the safe HP and the maximum torque transmitted for four gears. In the second part, we had to use the Browning catalog to solve for several categories such as: overload service factor, required HP, speed ratio, pitch, and number of teeth, for the given scenario listed above in the exercise.
