1.3.9 Practice: Complete Your Assignment
English 11 Sem 2 (S4399779)
Points possible: 30
Choose a single thing as your subject, such as a room, a house, a park, or a person, and describe it in a
stream of consciousness style.
Your scene should include the following elements:
A character with a distinct personality and a problem or conflict
Detailed description, told through a specific point of view, that creates a consistent tone, a vivid
setting or experience, and clear sense of the character’s personality and conflict
A stream of consciousness style that establishes the main character’s point of view and attitude
You should have completed a draft of this assignment in the activity before this one. If you haven't done
so, go back and complete that activity now.
Ask yourself these questions as you revise:
Did I choose a specific thing to describe?
Does the point of view I've chosen stay consistent, or do I make it clear when it changes?
Does my narrator have a conflict or problem that's explored in the description?
Do I use vivid description that conveys my narrator's personality?
Does my writing reflect the stream of consciousness style?
Use this rubric to determine how well you're meeting the criteria for the assignment.
