BREAKING DOWN THE WORK2Breaking Down the WorkIntroductionIn researching the work breakdown structure (WBS), there are important contribution factors that are identified in the project management process. They are included in the relationship of the prior process documents of the WBS, the components of the breakdown the project’s WBS, and justified in the rationale of the WBS. The breakdown of the project can be accomplished through different programs and easy to track for the stakeholders and executives. The breakdown will further analyze the cost distribution for the project. Kerzner (2013) stated, “There are certain core characteristics that every work breakdown structure (WBS) should possess. By knowing these core characteristics, the process of developing the WBS can be easier” (p.529).Importance of WBSThe importance of a WBS is for the Project Management Team to analyze the cost, scheduling, planning, and other requirements of the project. It helps with the controlling and the maintaining of the project throughout the project cycle. Process and policies can dictate how WBS are created within companies. It is common for businesses to set up their templates. However, as long as they follow the guidelines set forward by the Project Management Institute, and stay within the structuring of the WBS, then the WBS is the use of organizational specific.
