ACCOUNTING 5170/7120 RESEARCH PROJECT The purpose of this project is to perform some basic tax research and document your findings and conclusions in a Research Memorandum in the format shown in an Exhibit in Chapter 2 of the textbook. The project will require you to go beyond the textbook for a conclusion and you should NOT cite your textbook as a source of authority for this project. You can access the online resources (RIA Checkpoint or CCH IntelliConnect) through the Wayne State University library (as we will discuss in class). Your Research Memorandum should not be more than 1-5 typed (preferably double-spaced) pages. For this project, your research support must include a reference to the Internal Revenue Code and also to a court case that is relevant to your facts and conclusion along with administrative source (Regulation or Ruling). You should consider both the filing status and personal and dependency exemptions issues involved. Please use the research memo in chapter 2 as the memo template. Which research project you will be completing is a function of your last name. 1. Research Question 1 (A through C) Alex and Amanda Adams were married 22 years ago and have two children, Anne and Alex Jr. On June 2, 2016, after a particularly fierce argument, Alex packed his clothes and left for parts unknown. As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
