If I were the defense attorney for Mayo, I think I would ask to negotiate a plea bargain. I say this because in this case Manslaughters minimum sentence with a weapon is 4 years. Which still can be a lot of time for a person to be in jail. It is always better to try and negotiate a plea bargain especially if this was Mayo first offense and the simple fact that he may not be charged with just manslaughter. As you stated in my feedback it could go either way in manslaughter but hard to prove if charged as a first degree.
