The purpose of this paper is to envision myself in a nurse leadership role responsible for a service area in my hospital. I will explore ways to improve these outcomes through improved employee engagement by creating a performance data scorecard that will focus on outcome measures within my healthcare organization. A1. Performance Data Scorecard The population being addressed are patients on the Medical/Surgical floor at Sentara Virginia Beach Hospital in Virginia Beach, Virginia, called VBGH for short for the purpose of this paper. VBGH is a 276 bed acute care facility serving the community for 125 years. It offers many specialty services, to include the region’s only Level III Trauma center , behavioral health, diabetes, cardiac health, cancer, and nutrition/obesity. Sentara’s mission is “We Improve Health Every Day”, and as such has a strong presence in the Virginia Beach community. Sentara has conducted community health needs assessments for our inpatient hospitals and outpatient surgical hospitals in the areas that we serve. The assessments provide a picture of the health status of the residents in the community served and provides information about health and health-related problems that impact health status of the community itself. This assessment was used as the foundation for implementing the strategies discussed in this presentation. The population of this floor includes adults 18 years of age and older, and include those that have post-surgical needs, chronic medical conditions, or illnesses requiring specialized care. There are 24 beds on the unit at this time. The goal is to treat each patient with dignity, respect and compassion; keep all patients safe; listen and respond; keep them informed and involved; and work together as a team to provide quality healthcare for each person visiting our floor. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
