DEMOCRATIC PRINCIPLES 2 Democratic Principles Two democratic Principles that are considered fundamental and essential to democracy are the Rules of Law and Equality and two democratic principles that are considered related and desirable but not essential to democracy are Federalism and Separation of powers. Two essential democratic principles Considered Essential to Democracy: The Rule of Law The rule of law is one of the fundamental and essential elements of democracy. The rule of law is geared toward protecting the rights of citizens, maintaining order, and limiting the power of government. Human rights are protected under the rule of law. Discrimination is now allowed under the rule of law. According to the Democratic web, Comparative Studies in Freedom, the use of arbitrary power is anti to the rule of law. Democratic web feels that the rule of law should not be second-guessed but rather above the authority of any one individual. The rule of law supposed to keep political power in check and should present powerful leaders from using lawless power against his or her people. Without the rule of law, democracy
