Karan Desai Section 4 March 18 th 2008 PSU 006: First Year Seminar in Business Diversity in the Workplace Homework— Initial Thinking: Workplace Diversity, Equal Opportunity, & Affirmative Action Introduction When applying for a job (part-time or full-time), companies will require you to complete a job application. At the bottom of the job application, a company will state their hiring policy in the form of an “employment statement”. For example, at the bottom of all Penn State job applications, you will find: Penn State is committed to affirmative action, equal opportunity and the diversity of its workforce ”. The upcoming module in PSU 006 is “Diversity in the Workplace”. As a way to introduce you to this module and to begin exploring what diversity means as applied to a company, you are asked to write down what “equal opportunity employment”, “affirmative action”, and “diversity in the workforce” mean to you.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
