My threadCompetent communication is extremely important in the criminal justice field. If all the facts of an investigation as well as the witness and suspect interviews are not documented in a clear concise manner then the case can fall apart and the offender go free without facing justice. The responding officer at a scene needs to clearly document the victim and witness information and statements and what he sees upon arriving so that the detectives that come after him do not have to backtrack and try to establish what information may have been left out, making it harder to solve crimes. Likewise, the detectives need to keep concise notes and reports throughout the investigation so the prosecutor has all the required information to enforce justice when the case goes to court. While Dr. Joel Cox and Mr. Mike Milnor were discussing the importance of communicating facts in a report properly and competently in the presentation, ‘The Importance of Writing Skills in the Criminal Justice Context’. Mr. Mike Milnor said, “This is one of the mainbuilding blocks, and if you can’t translate what you’ve done in a clear concise manner so that everybody can understand it then we’ve not accomplished anything as police officers.” (Liberty.edu). My personal example in which competent communication was not used just happened a couple days ago. We had several members of my husband’s family over for a 4thof July lunch. My granddaughter has a cat that is not friendly to anyone it does not see on a regular basis. While cooking I told my husband to ask our daughter to secure the cat in her bedroom untilour guests left, as no one would be going in there. By the time he told our daughter the instructions were changed to in a bedroom instead of her bedroom. She proceeded to shut the cat into our granddaughter’s room and being four she quickly went back to her room for toys and let the cat out. The cat came downstairs and my mother in law tried to pick it up to pet it and was bitten. My mother in law upon leaving our house went to a clinic to have her hand checked. The result of the cat not being put in the proper place as originally instructed is that the cat now has to
