Great Britain uses a universal healthcare system model in which the healthcare system is publicly funded through taxation. Under this system children have automatic healthcare coverage. In the U.S. healthcare is provided by personal, privately acquired coverage or, in instances where it cannot be afforded, by the government through Medicaid or state funded services such as children’s health insurance program (CHIP). (Medicaid.gov, n.d.) People who are unemployed, Great Britain’s universal healthcare system also provides healthcare for its unemployed citizens automatically. (NHS choices Your health, your choices, n.d.) In the U.S. when a citizen is unemployed they are required to apply for insurance through Medicaid at no cost. (Medicaid.gov, n.d.) Access for healthcare in the U.S. vs Great Britain for people who are retired . Under Great Britain’s universal healthcare system model retired citizens are automatically covered.
