Professor Jessica Millward of the University of California is an American Historian who has focused her work on the female slave experience. Her work consists of examining pieces of literature written by black women during slavery. Millward focuses her article, “More History Than Myth” on Deborah Gray Whites’s publication of Ar’n’t I a Woman? The argument Jessica Millward presented in her article focuses on gender and slavery in early America compared to modern day America. Millward’s main argument was to prove how the African American woman’s identity has changed in the United States since the publication of Deborah White’s book, Ar’n’t I a Woman? The peer reviewed article written by Jessica Millward was laid out in a systematic way. The introductory paragraph acquainted readers with three main points: race and feminism, resistance, power, and activism and violence, sexualities, and the body.
