CHCAGE001FACILITATE THE EMPOWERMENT OF OLDER PEOPLE(Written activity)1.Methods to develop relationships with older people in the context of community servicesinclude;Conduct interpersonal exchange in a manner that promotes empowerment anddevelops and maintains trust and goodwill.Provide accurate information that will help them exercise choice and maximizeindependence to manage their own lives, understand their options and engagewith and actively participate in their community.Recognize and respect older peoples social, cultural and spiritual differences byusbeing empathic, unbiased and non-judgmental.Maintain confidentially and privacy of the person within organizational policyand protocols Encourage the person to adopt a shared responsibility for own support as a meansof achieving better health outcomes and quality of live.2.In working in community services I plan to provide services to older people by:Identify and discuss services which empower the older person and support theolder person to express their own identity and preferences without imposing ownvalues and attitudes.Adjust services to meet the specific needs of the older person and provide servicesaccording to older person’s preferencesProvide services according to organizational policies, procedures and duty of care3.The following can be done to support the rights of older person:Assist the older person to understand their rights and the complaints mechanismof the organizationsDeliver services ensuring the rights of the older person are upheld and identifybreaches of human rights and respond appropriatelyRecognize signs consistent with financial, physical or emotional abuse or neglectof the older person and report to an appropriate personAssist the person to access other support services and the complaints mechanismas required4.One can promote health and re-ablement of older people within the context of communityservices by:Encourage the older person to engage as actively as possible in all living activitiesand provide them with information and support to do so and assist the olderperson to recognize the impact that changes associated with ageing may have ontheir activities of living.
Identify strategies and opportunities that maximise engagement and promotehealthy lifestyle practices and work with the person to identify physical and socialenablers and disablers impacting on health outcomes and quality of lifeIdentify and utilise aids and modifications that promote individual strengths andcapacities to assist with independent living in the older person’s environmentDiscuss situations of risk or potential risk associated with ageing5.One’s attitude can affect the way one work with older people it enhances onesprofessionalism and ethical work practice.
