Gun Violence in the U.S.•Black men are 13 times more likely than non-hispanic white men to be shot and killed with guns; black Americans make up 14 percent of the U.S. population but are victims of more than half of all gun homicides.•Women are 5 times more likely to be killed in a domestic violence situation when a gun is present; firearms are the most common weapon used in intimate partner homicides (IPH).•40% of all gun sales are undocumented private party gun sales that do not require a background check (aka the "gun show loophole"). •54% of U.S. gun owners don’t store guns safely, according to a 2016 survey (in a locked gun safe/cabinet/case; locked in a gun rack; or stored with a trigger lock/other lock.)•None of the 62 mass shootings between 1982 and 2012 was stopped by an armed civilian.
