Michelle Maryakhin MKT 5450 April 22, 2018 Four Keepers Extra Credit There are many things I will take away from taking this class. It has opened my eyes to many topics that I never even realized drive consumer behavior. As someone who works in retail and also graduating with a marketing degree, this information and how I apply it will be of utmost importance for my future as a professional. Although I have learned a large amount from this class, four topics that stand out to me the most are emotional intelligence, micro-cultures, mere exposure effect, and the myth of the rational consumer. Firstly, emotional intelligence is defined as awareness of the emotions experienced in a given situation, and the ability to control reactions to these emotions. Emotional intelligence is not only about your own emotions, but also understanding and interpreting those of others around you. I think having high emotional intelligence is key in the professional world as well as your personal life. Many people overestimate their own emotional intelligence and it is important to always be trying to improve on this characteristic. Having high emotional intelligence helps with decision making, managing emotions, and exhibiting self-control. As both a consumer and a professional in the marketing world, being aware of my own emotional intelligence and how to improve it can help me succeed in life.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
