SC121 Unit 4 Assignment PART 1 1. Why are cells are important to the body Cells are the basic building blocks for all living things. The human body is composed of trillions of cells. They provide structure for the body, take in nutrients from food convert those nutrients in to energy. 2. Which organelle do you think would kill you the fastest if you lost it? Explain your answer. Not having no DNA, because you would not be able to replace cells. 3. How is cell shape related to function? Give at least 3 examples and explain. The structure and shape of each type of a human cells depends on what function it performs in the body. Example 1. RBC’s are very small, flat discs, which allows them to easily fit through narrow capillaries and around sharp corners in the circulatory system to deliver oxygen throughout the body. Example 2. The neuron has long, thin extensions to reach out to other nerve cells.
