Annotated Bibliography O'Leary, Mick. "YouTube Is Beneficial to Society." Popular Culture , edited by David Haugen and Susan Musser, Greenhaven Press, 2011. Opposing Viewpoints. Opposing Viewpoints inContext , u=mtrangehs&xid=1c9f1b81. Accessed 2 Dec. 2017. Originally published as "I Love YouTube," Information Today , vol. 25, Dec. 2008, pp. 33-39. This eloquent argument conveys YouTube is beneficial to the society and smashes the stereotypes people have towards YouTube. It characterizes that YouTube is more acceptable and straightforward for audience to gain knowledge than books. By giving an example of the video “Evolution of Dance” , it has more viewers than readers who have read this book “in the past 5 years”. In addition, the author also contradicts YouTube videos are not from “brain dead slackers with piercing and no jobs”. On contrary, it has a lot “serious stuff” like presidential campaign and all kinds of educational channels which could make a huge influence on politics and public opinions. Therefore, YouTube is considered a “video Wikipedia” which is “available free for everyone.” Meanwhile, this text gives the response to the perspective “YouTube is a careless jumble of junky videos haphazardly stuck on the web.” The author substantiates with many functions like “Related Videos feature”, “ranking and comments” and “subject-related video” to support the idea YouTube has made the audience’s viewing more efficient. Similarly, the “illicit” and “unacceptable” video content also have its own solution. This article proved that these improper videos will be discarded by the audience themselves. The illicit context will be reported and the YouTube has special staff to examine them.Lastly, the text points out there will be more useful and fulfilling videos posted by this extremely fascinating platform; thus, it encourages more people to “relax and enjoy” the wonderful world. This article provided me many interesting ideas about breaking the stereotype towards YouTube videos. It helps me to understand the advantages of YouTube, such as it’s more wide-spread, more informational, more acceptable for audiences to understand ideas than the traditional forms of medias like books and television. The comparison of information-spread efficiency between the traditional media and YouTube interests me to do more research about it. To my astonishment, the YouTube video which the author refers in the text “Evolution of Dance” has 41,222,085 views, and the youtuber Judson Laipply went viral overnight; it gives this unknown artist a chance to show his talent in front of the public and let people get to know him at the same time. I am going to use this information to support my idea of the benefits of YouTube.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
