Chapter 1- Introduction to Personal Health and Fitness Health : state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity; the condition of being sound in body, mind, or spirit- especially freedom from physical disease or pain…the general condition of the body Wellness : the process of making informed choices that will lead one, over a period of time, to a healthy lifestyle that should result in a sense of well-being -social : an individual’s ability to relate and interact with others -intellectual : regularly engage in new and ongoing learning opportunities and experiences; the more unknowns an individual faces, the opportunities he/she has to learn and grow intellectually -emotional : able to enjoy life despite unexpected challenges and problems, coping with life’s difficulties and unexpected events is essential to maintaining good health -physical : attaining healthy levels of cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength and endurance, flexibility, and body composition
