Chapter 2- Understanding Health-Related Fitness 5 Components to Health Related Fitness 1. cardiovascular fitness 2. muscular strength 3. muscular endurance 4. flexibility 5. body composition Muscular Fitness -2 components: 1. muscular strength : the force or tension the muscle or muscle group can exert against a resistance in one maximal effort 2. muscular endurance : the ability or capacity of a muscle group to perform repeated contractions against a load, or to sustain a contraction for an extended period of time Skill related fitness -examples: agility balance coordination reaction time speed power Cardio Terms -cardiovascular fitness : ability of the heart, lungs, CVS and energy supply system to perform at optimum level for extended periods of time -cardiovascular endurance : ability of the body to perform prolonged, large- muscle, dynamic activities at a medium level for extended periods of time Benefits of good cardiovascular fitness: -decrease in percent body fat
