Summative Assessment 2 Define a work setting situation you have been involved in, either good or not so good, that allows you to demonstrate application of the concepts learned in this course i.e., leadership style, organizational culture, the change process and strategic planning, After I was a new hire at the facility I currently work in I became disturbed by the holiday schedule. Paid time off was not allowed to be used during the holidays. The schedule is planned where everyone must work either the day of, before, or after a holiday. If it was you off days during the holiday period, you would have to work one of the days and have your regular days off after the holiday. The problem was that for 3 years straight the schedule would rotate where the same people were off days after the holidays. Also, the charge nurse making the schedule had it where the days off and schedule benefitted her shift, and longtime co-workers. New employees worked all holiday schedules and were usually working the days after the holidays. 2 . What additional information would you collect to analyze the situation? I would collect data to determine how long had the holiday scheduling been in place. From old schedules I would do statistical data to see how many employees have had days off after holidays. Also, I would see which employees were changed from their regular schedules to allow for time off. As previously mentioned the schedule would benefit longtime co-workers, and the individual co-workers. I would research what other holiday policies are in place on other units. 3. Evaluate the culture of the organization
Summative Assessment 3 Organizational structure refers to the formal system of work roles and authority relationships that govern how associates and managers interact with one another. (Jones, 2010) Organization structure can assist with ensuring execution of job responsibilities and improved hospital functioning. The hospital I work for is a catholic hospital. When I first started working for the facility there were many levels to the organizational structure. Not long after I was employed they revamped the organization and have a board. The executive level is the Chief financial, nurse officer, and vice presidents of each. Human Resources was downsized with most communication online
