Question 4: Emile Durkheim is a functionalist, so in the case of fast food workers, he would view them simply as workers. Every job within a society holds a purpose that helps the society to function properly. Along with the immediate goal of functionalism: for each person to maintain their role in society, the system also helps prove that division of labor does not only benefit productivity and roles as employees, but also relates to social situations as well. A person’s job connects to many other aspects of their life, but instead of focusing on personal connections, functionalism often focuses on the impacts of larger scale factors such as the economy, industrialization, and the way the world changes over time. These larger factors act as puzzle pieces that fit together to serve their function rather than an interpersonal analyzation of an individual’s life. Fast food workers would simply be fulfilling their role as an employee, the work they do serving as just another task on their list of responsibilities. On the other hand, Max
