The difference between homosexual acts and homosexual identity is that homosexual acts are often situational. They do not necessarily reflect a person’s identity, but merely the behavior they are displaying at a certain point in time. A homosexual identity however, is something that can be considered a label. It could be a label of pride or a stigmatized factor. The historical development of homosexual identities was important because before 1850 there was no such thing. The only thing that existed were behaviors that had no form of identity attached to them. Michael Foucault was a philosopher who introduced the matter of culture into the mix. He analyzed how culture helps determine or sway people away from a certain sexuality. He also looked at the power struggles (a good example of Conflict Theory) and the role they played in society’s evolving knowledge of sexuality. Racialization is defined as the formation of a new racial identity by drawing ideological boundaries of difference around a formerly unnoticed group of people. The way it differs
