Career PlanThere comes a point in one’s life when the question, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” becomes less of a game and more of a reality. The very beginning of this progression may begin during the college application process. Deciding the college of choice, the entrance major, and course selection can all partake in the beginning of one’s future career. For some, it is easy as they have found what they are talented at and passionate about at an earlier age. For others, college is a time to dip one’s toes in a variety of classes in order to come close to deciding a major to graduate and start a life with. Attending a university allows students to switch majors, find a passion to pursue, or become more lost than they were when they first started at the school. For me, I have dabbled in all three with the result leading to me finding an interest in being a personal financial advisor and a lawyer.I am halfway through my four years of college at the University of Arizona, and it hasalready been a long and winding road. I have changed majors 3 times, from psychology, to pre-business with an interest in marketing, and currently in the final steps of switching to economics. Economics is not a subject that I have found vast interest in; however, due to previous personal struggles it has become the path that will hopefully lead me directly into graduation. While it is not my first choice of major, it is a subject that proves to be of interestto anyone as it is extremely relevant to daily life. Based off my research, particularly for this assignment, I have discovered that a career path in economics may turn out to be a rewardingand successful one. I jumped into majoring in economics without a plan of action for my future. It has been due to my recent research that I have come across two possible career fields that pose an interest to me. While these particular interests may change, I believe that,
based off what I have discovered, if they were to stick I could develop and maintain a successful and prosperous life. While most people would base their decision of major on their desired career choice, Iam basing my career choice on my major. At the University of Arizona, students are offered the opportunity to earn a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. According to their website, “The field of economics provides a framework for analyzing and solving problems that arise from scarcity. Public issues—inflation, unemployment, budget deficits, and environmental pollution, for example—as well as individual and business decision-making, are examples ofthe economist's work” (Business Economics Major 2018). These issues stated above revolve around the financials of society. The coursework for undergraduate students majoring in economics consists of business classes as well as any required coursework by the school needed to graduate. I intend to follow the Bachelor of Arts in Economics four-year plan provided by the University of Arizona in order to begin the process towards becoming a personal financial advisor and lawyer.
