Chapter 9 Questions1. The sun affects temperature at different latitude’s by affecting the amount of sun light that the area receives. Latitude is the measurement of the distance of a location on the Earth from the equator. The further away from the equator that a location resides, the less sunlight it receives at the colder the temperature would be. The earths spherical shape and tilt of its axis produces a great deal of variation in the exposure of solar energy based on its location.4. It will be easier to adapt to climate change than mitigate climate change because the lifestyles of people today are very pampered and wasteful, and those people are not willing to change. The damage we have already caused our planet will require the efforts of many large companies and consumers to fix and that is very unrealistic. Some people are very willing to change but since a large amount of our would have to contribute to make an effective impact on climate change, it will be easier to adapt to climate change. This is a very pessimistic view because climate change could be mitigated if everyone put their efforts but the reality is that people are not willing change for the better, so it will be easier to just adapt to the effects of climate change.5. The benefits of the ozone in the stratosphere is that it is vital in shielding the Earth’s surface from harmful ultraviolet radiation. It prevents the radiation from passing into the earth’s surface.Harmful effects of the ozone at ground level is that it can cause health related issues due to the pollution. Some of the harmful effects of the ozone at ground level are that it hinders lung function and inflames the linings of the lungs. Repeated exposure can permanently scar lung tissue and lead to a variety of health problems including chest pain, coughing, throat irritation, and congestion.
