Nursing DashboardsNursing dashboards are an essential tool for communicating to the clinical staff how on track they are to the budgeted daily operations and long-term goals set by Senior Leadership. The real time tonear real time awareness allows the staff and manager to stay focused and adjust as needed. By the nurse manager using color coded graphs that represent the bench mark expectation along with the current department state, this allows easy interruption by all staff. Some areas displayed on the dashboard staff has much control over, but others are directly impacted by staff behavior. Clear and concise expectations must be communicated to the staff as well as concise ways to meet, sustain, and exceed bench mark. Financial IndicatorsTwo financial indicators that would be placed on my dashboard for the Emergency Department would be budgeted daily patient volume to the actual daily patient visits and daily volume to staffing. The number of daily budgeted patients is determined by the Financial Department by calculating the previous year’s visits with the forecasted percentile increase year over year (Kam, Sung, & Park, 2010). Staffing and supplies are calculated by this number. This is an area where staff has little control over daily volume however, staff does have control to the patient’s experience while in our care. This experience will determine if the patient leaves our ED and speaks positively or negatively via social media or personally about our department to their friends and family. Patient experience has a direct impact to the financial stability of an organization. The daily patient volume would be entered into the dashboard daily to monitor whether the department was to budget, over, or under. Patient volume should have a direct correlation to staffing and the use of supplies. This would be one way a manager
