The study of criminology has been based on male experiences and perspectives. Since criminology has always been viewed through a man perspective, women offenders and victims have been overlooked. According to Jaggar and Rothenberg. “early liberal theorists postulated the fundamental equality of all men” (Jaggar & Rothenberg, 1984). Liberal feminists advocate equal opportunity for all women. Walby states, “that liberal feminists are concerned with the denial of equal rights to women in education and employment that is based on prejudice and sexist attitudes” (Walby, 1990). Fred Adler and Rita Simon are the main pioneers of the liberal feminists. Alder work and research was indistinct by mass media, politicians, and male criminologists. Simon perspective of women and crime is that women commit crimes, because offrustration and the roles they have as a female. Feinman and Steffensmeier challenged the assumption of Alder and Simon that the result of women’s crime is the result of women’s movement. Alder, Feinman, Simon, and Steffensmeier have made major contributions to liberal feminists. With their contributions criminologists have been able to understand women’s crime. Marxist feminists reject the liberal’s belief that it is possible for people to have genuine equality of opportunity while they remain within a class society where many produce the wealth, but the wealth and power remain in the hands of a few. Marxists see women oppression as originating from with the introduction of private property. Jaggar and argues, “asserted the view of Marxist feminists, women are oppressed primarily by capitalism, and men’s domination over women is a by-product of capital’s domination over labor.
