CAREER DEVELOPMENT CRITERIA ASSIGNMENT2Career Development Criteria AssignmentCritical thinking is a focused, self-regulatory decision that uses intellectual apparatuses such as understanding, examination, valuation, interpretation, and clarification of the evidential deliberations on which decision is founded (Benner, Hughes & Sutphen, 2008). In the healthcare environment, respiratory therapy is an essential component of professional accountability and quality patient care. Problem-solving is used in direct client care, team level leadership and system-level leadership. Decision-making is applied in accurately diagnosing emergent conditions, analyzing and managing health risk, anticipating resources, and understanding treatment (Papathanasiou, Kleisiaris, Fradelos, Kakou & Kourkouta, 2014). Additionally, decision-making is applied in analyzing and resolving a personal issue, developing and implementing data protocol, and designing and implementing agency initiative within the healthcare environment. If poor decision-making is made, progress can be impeded, resources get wasted, and all of this adversely affects the functionality of the health facility (Benner et al., 2008). The management of healthcare decisions, including nurses, doctors, respiratory therapists, managers, and non-medical staff, should display the use of critical thinking in order to efficientlyrun an ethical health care facility.
