FEAA200 : Introduction to Engineering and Architecture Experiment II-a 3 Set up a robot using Lego Mindstorms EV3 Education kit Experiment with basic operations and maintenance of the robot Use the robot’s different sensor and actuator modules Program EV3 using LabVIEW Construct a “mental” model of your system and solve complex problems by breaking them down into smaller manageable parts II. INTRODUCTION The LEGO MINDSTORMS technology represents an exciting way to learn about robotics and to apply the principles of programming, physical science, and mathematics. Now with the Education EV3 it is more fun to learn! The EV3 brick is the heart of the robot th at you will build. It represents a “programmable intelligent brick that controls motors and sensors, as well as providing wireless communication. Choose what motors and sensors you wish to use and build your robot just like you want it to be” [3]. Figure 1: Overview of the EV3 Source [3] III. LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 The EV3 is divided as follows: Four output ports that are used to connect the motors: Port A, Port B, Port C, and

FEAA200 : Introduction to Engineering and Architecture Experiment II-a 4 Port D Four input ports to connect the different sensors: Port 1, Port 2, Port 3, and Port 4. A USB Host port to add a USB Wi-Fi dongle for connecting to a wireless network, or to connect up to four EV3 Bricks together (daisy chain) A PC Port to connect the EV3 brick to a computer A SD Card Port to increase the memory of the brick A Speaker A display to show what is going on inside the EV3 Brick and to enable the use of the Brick Interface. Buttons to move Back/Shutdown, Center/OK/ON, Left, Right, Up and Down.
