Christopher CarpenterCWV 101 July 31, 2018Professor Steve DubyBenchmark - Gospel EssentialsChristians account for nearly one third of the human population and some countries are over 90 percent Christian. According to Grim (2014), Christianity is the world’s largest religion. In an effort to understand how one religion can account for two billion people, we need to understand the Christian world view. Christians believe that God sacrificed his only son, Jesus, to restore humanity and wash away their sins. In this essay, I will discuss and evaluate four essential elements of the Christian Worldview: God, humanity, Jesus, and restoration, then provide an analysis, reflection, and a conclusion.GodTo understand God, we ask ourselves, what are God’s characteristics, what is God like, and what is his creation. To understand God’s characteristics, we must understand the Trinity. Christians believe that God is a single entity of three different forms. The Trinity is God as the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This is a difficult subject to grasp, but just as water can havethree different forms, God has three forms. The Bible says, “May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all” (Corinthians 13:14 NIV). These forms define God’s characteristics as God the creator, God as Jesus and God as the Holy Spirit when Jesus rose from the dead. To understand what God is like is beyond comprehension for man but we can look for clues and what is understandable. It is known that 1

God is loving, just, forgiving, good and free of sin. God is omnipotent and orderly and created man in his image. “Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. {8} Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. {9} This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him” (John 4:7-9 NIV). Also, to further understand God, you have to understand that God has created all that is and will ever be. Genesispreaches that God created the heavens and the Earth, he created the fish and the birds, and he created man in his image. He created all of these things perfectly and on the seventh day, he rested, as his work was done. HumanityHuman nature, human purpose and the root of human problems are described through Genesis 1-3. Man was created perfectly and in God’s image. “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them” (Genesis 1:27 NIV). Genesis 2 tells us that God created Adam from dust and Eve from Adam’s rib. God intended for Adam and Eve to live in bounty foraging from all the trees and their fruits. Human
